SUMMARY:
The Child Health and Nutrition Officer of SHAY project will support the Child Health & Nutrition Manager and be involved with the implementation of nutrition and newborn/child health activities along with Nutrition & Child Health Assistants in governorate offices. S/he will manage Nutrition & Child Health Assistants. Elements of community-level SBC and Mental Health will be important aspects. The Officer will engage in daily implementation of integrated capacity-building activities at all levels. The Officer will work closely with FMF in supporting health facilities and NYMA in support of CMWs, together working with the MoPHP at all levels and key local NGOs/CSOs in targeted districts to continuously build their capacity. Final alignment to ADRA’s wage scale will be completed for this position at the implementation phase.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Child Health and Nutrition Officer will be responsible but not limited to:
- Conduct technical support visits to the health facilities to ensure that nutrition and newborn/child health services are being provided according to national standards and protocols, ensure all beneficiaries in the health and nutrition program receive care and treatment in accordance with MoPHP guidelines.
- Ensure the implementation of quality nutrition and newborn/child health activities in the target facilities and outreach sites in accordance with acceptable national and international standards.
- Provide supportive supervision visits for nutrition and newborn/ child health activities within coordination with MoPHP.
- Provide capacity building and on the job training to nutrition and newborn/child health staff in the facilities and in the outreach sites and ensure the Yemen standard treatment guidelines and protocols are adhered.
- Work in close collaboration with the MoPHP, GHO and DHO to organize training for HF staff, CHW, CHVs, mobile teams.
- Conduct supportive supervision to ensure program quality, accurate health data reporting and appropriate use of medical drugs.
- Compile and submit quality supervision reports with action points after each supervision report and follow up on the action points.
- Prepare weekly, and monthly progress reports and statistical reports for submission to the Nutrition Specialist and Health Specialist.
- Ensure proper documentation of achievements, lessons learnt, and best practices throughout the program implementation.
- Support the development of work plans, reporting and monitoring and evaluation plans.
- Participate in planning, coordination, and execution of M&E activities such as surveys, monthly and quarterly follow up and quality assurance.
- Report any problems in a timely manner to the Nutrition and child health manager.
- Ensure timely reporting of activities (narrative and data) in accordance with set deadlines.
- Collect reporting/data inputs from mobile teams and community outreach volunteers and compile results weekly.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the Direct Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in medicine, public health.
- Demonstrated experience in development nutrition and newborn/child health programming with at least 3 years of experience in health/nutrition or related field.
- Experience in health/nutrition such as CMAM, MAMI, IYCF, ICCM, Family MUAC and other relevant approaches etc.
- Sound understanding of the MISP framework in Yemen.
- Experience with MEAL principles/practice.
- Clear understanding of the intersection between health, nutrition, child protection, education, WASH, and food security.
- Demonstrated experience in the management of health equipment and medical supplies.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategically.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead, train and motivate a team.
- Experience of and commitment to capacity building staff.
- Experience of working collaboratively with local and national government.
- Fluency in English and Arabic.
- Report writing skills in English.
- Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular)
- Willingness/ability to travel to field locations and live in insecure and challenging environments.
