SUMMARY:

The Senior ICCM Officer will be working under the direct supervision of Health Specialist and responsible for selecting and supporting Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) and Community Health Workers (CHW); assist health and nutrition officers and assistants in training and supervising CHVs/CHWs. S/he will also promote collaboration and linkages between the mobile team/health facilities and the displaced people and surrounding communities through the formation of a network of community resources people. In addition, Senior ICCM Officer will be responsible for supporting ICCM program in the provision of treatment of malnutrition for children under five. He/She will support the CHWs on timely treatment of children for diseases such as pneumonia, diarrhea and malaria as the highest contributors to morbidity in most areas in Yemen. The Senior ICCM Officer will be responsible for sensitizing the communities and supporting them identifying main health problems and help them how to address those health problems. Also identify treatment interventions and actions that should take for treating child under 5 years from diarrhea, pneumonia, malaria and malnutrition, referral of children with danger signs, pre-referral treatment of those children, and provide treatment at home

RESPONSIBILITIES

The “Senior ICCM Officer” will be responsible but not limited to:

  • This position will be responsible for initiating, directing and coordinating all required community health and nutrition activities.
  • Work closely with the Health Specialist and Nutrition Specialist to determine the training needs for the CHVs/CHWs of the programs within the scope of the project.
  • Public health activities with regards to CHVs/CHWs.
  • Make health/medical and nutritional needs assessments.
  • Assist in the selection and training of qualified CHVs/CHWs, as per set criteria from the identified communities and facilitate mapping of the community health actors,
  • Submit weekly and monthly plans, progress of community health and nutrition activities to the health specialist.
  • Make regular filed visits to the targeted communities and health facilities to ensure that appropriate care and training are being conducted.
  • Supervise and provide on the job training to CHVs/CHWs, review and evaluate the performance of the CHVs/CHWs.
  • Review CHVs/CHWs attendance sheet and submit to the finance for payment.
  • Compiling reports of community health from CHVs/CHWs and give a feedback, and ensure that reports are of good quality through regular verification of the data.
  • Identify and report immediately to the Health Specialist any problem that may interfere in achieving program objectives.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the Direct Supervisor.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in in Medicine, Public health/, family health, global/international health, community health OR Medical assistant/Registered Nurse.
  • experience in implementing and supervising community health volunteers and community mobilization projects.
  • 3 years of previous INGO experience in similar position.
  • Proven ability in designing community mobilization, sensitization and awareness raising activities.
  • Good training and capacity building skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of the working environment and excellent self-motivation skills.
  • The ability to work with a broad spectrum of people.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
  • Extremely flexible and can cope with stressful situations and frustrations.
  • Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources.
  • Excellent English and Arabic Languages (Writing and speaking) are required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular)
  • Reporting Skills are Required.
